With around 20,000 members, the club is one of Lower Saxony’s biggest sports clubs and in 2019/20 the only Lower Saxon football side in the Bundesliga. As of December 2019 the first team had been in the top flight continuously since promotion in 1997, won the league in 2009, and lifted the DFB-Pokal and DFL Supercup in 2015.
